The Job Guarantee and Developing Economies

While a public job program may divert some of the labor force away from essential sustenance activities, it could help communities and families prioritize their efforts.

One common critique of a Job Guarantee is that it would bad for developing economies. First of all, it is probably better than artisinal mining and other projects, or piracy and scams, which sometimes arise in poor and less developed countries(which aren’t always the same).

First of all, these activities are extreme examples. I would expect growing cash crops and basic sustenance activies to be more common. If a public jobs program were implemented, it would be difficult to implement everywhere, or have everyone participate, especially in remote locales.

But I think you might see some partial development.
